Welcome to The Self- Sufficient Citizen

Hello, my name is Hannah, and I am the author of The Self-Sufficient Citizen. My motto in life is, “If that person can do it, so can I”. It doesn’t matter what it is. If that’s working on a car or baking something challenging and I want to do it, I’ll figure out how. I firmly believe if someone wants to accomplish something they can absolutely do that with a little determination and hard work.

My goal for this blog is to help women like me grow and learn about homemaking, homesteading and self-sufficiency. A few years ago, I had a friend come over in college and she admitted to me she had no clue how to cook or make a budget. The more I thought about growing up, the girls around me didn’t all know how to cook, keep a home clean, make a budget, plant and keep a garden alive, store food, and stock a pantry. Home education classes were long cut out of our school budgets. While I would drag my friends into my home and teach them as much as I knew I realized a growing problem. Young women are not consistently given basic life skills to run and maintain a home. Seeing this problem, I decided that I wanted a place to fix it. A place where I could reach people all around the world and help them learn necessary life skills. Homemaking and self-preparedness are incredible skills that should never be lost with time or budgets. These skills are so relevant to our everyday lives and with the modern amenities we have so many opportunities to hone these skills.

“I realized a growing problem. “

About the Author

Hello again! Here is the little blurb that “is about me” but really just tells you why I am qualified to talk about homemaking and homesteading.
I moved out at 18 into a duplex that sat on a 6000 square foot lot. The house and garage took up a lot, but I managed to have a producing garden and chickens by the summer of 2019. By the end of 2020 I had graduated with my associates and headed out into the workforce working full time. Before graduating I lived the “stay at home wife” lifestyle while working on my degree. My boyfriend and I tried and luckily failed to get a home by the end of 2021 (Credit is important!). So, this spring (2022) we picked up stakes, moved cities and began renting an apartment.
Throughout this all I budgeted, cleaned, cooked, and so much more. While I do dream of an off-grid house with a small dairy goat farm right now, I am living like most of you. I think since I have had so many stages of life that I already have lived through I can help women in all situations understand how to become a homemaker and homestead in whatever stage of life that they are in now.
