Hi, welcome, back to The Self Sufficient Citizen! The Holidays are upon us now and it is the perfect opportunity to give gifts to people in our lives. As a kid and teenager, I used to buy everyone’s Christmas gift by August of that year and had no worries about last minute shopping… But now? I still have to go out and buy at least three people’s gifts. Yikes! I’m not really sure why I suddenly went from always Mrs. prepared to last minute shopping here I am.
Coming up with personalized gifts is the hardest thing about the holidays. Worry not though because I have a list that can be used for homemakers, homesteaders, minimalists and their families!
Like any list online, I am making a suggestion to what your present receiver may like. Keep in mind I don’t know them. If they’re vegan, then don’t get them beef jerky. I am saying this because even though this list has some great ideas, you should keep in mind the person you are buying for. If there is nothing on this list that you think they’d like, then maybe it will stir up ideas for you anyways.
So, without further ado let’s get into why you came here in the first place
Men’s Gift Ideas
- Gift cards to hunting shops or stores
- Freeze dried food (hiking and for food storage)
- Jerky (Would you believe that they have Jerky subscription boxes and variety packs!)
- Cologne (Cologne can be very expensive but if you buy the cheapest stuff they have that’s the quality you will get. I recommend spending about $35. I buy my boyfriends for $60, and it lasts him 2 years.)
- Subscription to a magazine or streaming service (There are so many out there, it’s really insane! It can get expensive for one or two people to pay monthly for so maybe consider picking up the bill? Subscription boxes would fit great under this as well. Just look up whatever he loves and add “box” at the end)
- Chicken/feed store (Chicken math. If you got that then you definitely own chickens or know someone who does. Chickens can get expensive because of so many reasons. If a guy you know loves his chickens, then consider giving him a break from buying the feed or supplies he needs using a gift card.)
Woman’s Gift Ideas
For this section I would recommend against giving a woman with kids something that is more of a gift for their family. While it may come from a place of love, gifts that are meant for a person should be specific to that person. This is not always a hard fast rule but make sure you add in something for her as well.
- Self care kit (Epsom salt, lotion, face mask, candle and some chocolate)
- Gift cards to their hobbies (Michales, hobby lobby, Cabela’s, REI, Bath and Body works, Amazon, etc…)
- Spa day (Literal spas still exist guys. They do massages, mud baths, waxing, peti and mani’s. Anything a working woman who needs a break will love. It doesn’t have to be a place that does all of those but if someone gets their lashes and nails done consider giving a gift card so they can start their new year out looking or feeling fabulous.)
- Books (This one can go back to their hobbies too. I enjoy pretty much any fiction book under the sun but I absolutely love new recipe books, food storage, and any book related to things I love.)
- Subscription to a food service (Cooking can be exhausting and having a easy healthy meal option at home is a great thing to have. I have used Blue Apron and recommend it! This is not sponsored btw.)
- Chicken/feed store (Chicken math. This applies to women too! Might I suggest chicken themed things too if she really loves her hens? I want an egg collecting apron and maybe she does too.)
Children Gift Ideas
I want to make sure for this section that you should buy Age-Appropriate gifts for children. Legos are a choking hazard for babies (and honestly your actually giving dad that gift anyways). If the child draws on walls, make sure to either give no pens with the coloring book or washable only. Also, if you get a kid a gift card makes sure to pair it with something they can use then. Kids sometimes can’t grasp why they can’t go to the waterpark with the gift card NOW. Even if it is snowing.
- Coloring pad
- Legos
- Books
- Gift card to play area like a jumping course or water park
