Classic Christmas Movies!

Good morning! Welcome back to The Self Sufficient Citizen! Where my usual content surrounds homemaking, homesteading, minimalism and self-reliance I am doing the 12 days of Blogmas. That means 12 days from Christmas there will be a post every morning to read!  And on the third day of Christmas… I bring you my favorite classic Christmas movies!

These are movies that I grew up watching as a kid for the most part long after their release date. No matter the age of these movies because there are plenty reasons these are considered “classics” and “must watch” in many homes.  For me when I see these start to play during the winter season it means Christmas is surely on its way. So, without further ado here are your tickets to Christmas!

Classic Christmas Movies

Movies

  • Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer released in 1964 written by Romeo Muller and directed by Larry Roemer. This stop motion film was a must watch in our home and who wouldn’t want to see a traditional film that has played on NBC for over 50 years! Trust me that you don’t wanna miss seeing the band of Misfits find a place to belong.
  • Santa Claus is Comin’ to town (Produced by Jules Bass & Arthur Rankin Jr.). If it wasn’t Rodolph playing, then I surely had talked someone into putting this movie on for me as a kid. It still is in my top 5 Christmas movies I love. This movie was released in 1970 and is stop motion written by Romeo Muller as well. ABC airs this one as well and they should! It tells you the story of how Kris Kringle became Santa!
  • How The Grinch Stole Christmas (Directed by Chuck Jones · Ben Washam). If “you’re a mean one Mr. Grinch” didn’t start singing in your mind then you have some original movie songs to catch up on! I believe they play that iconic song in all of the Grinch remakes, but I heard it first in the 1966 film based off of the book Dr. Suess wrote. The first animated movie on my list this one is a true classic. This movie will have you laugh out loud with the silly faces the Grinch makes.
  • A Charlie Brown Christmas released in 1965 directed by Bill Melendez is iconic to say at the very least. This movie has lots of laughs for adults and children so make sure to put it on your movie list!
  • The Polar Express released in 2004 and directed by Robert Zemeckis isn’t as old as our other movies but is a classic in my home. This movie is very well animated and has a great sound track to go along with the truth of Christmas. If you don’t believe me that you need to watch this show I challenge you to try it out. I think after watching this you will add it to your must watch every year Christmas list…don’t believe me? Seeing is believing.
  • A Christmas Story released in 1984 directed by Bob Clark is an American Classic. Following a little boy who just wants a BB gun for Christmas. The movie shows shenanigans that can happen in a home before and during Christmas. I actually already have watched this movie this year so once I vouch for its timeless humor.

I hope you enjoy these Classic Christmas Movies! Thank you for dropping by The Self Sufficient Citizen and I hope to see you again. Until next time
